Why did you found JustLearn?
JustLearn was founded to make science sexy and purposeful for students and teachers. We have developed PlanetBox, a living model of our planet that fits inside any classroom. PlanetBox is a year or semester-long ecosystem that you study as you bring it to life. It’s supported by curricula that helps educators meet learning objectives through fun and hands-on learning experiences.
Story or moment of inspiration to start JustLearn?
I don’t have a science or engineering background and I’m surprised at how easily I acquired STEM skills by being exposed to certain agriculture technologies and techniques such as aquaponics. Many technologies and sciences overlap in the field of food-production, and that is when I decided to leverage the pedagogical qualities of aquaponics, and ecosystems more broadly, and turn them into instruments of learning!
Also, I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but the environmental crisis, is like, the biggest challenge facing our planet. And in a world that’s increasingly urbanized, with more and more students disconnected from the outside world, it’s only fair that we bring the outside world to them.
What’s a memorable moment in your entrepreneurial journey?
That one time homeland security didn’t interrogate me was cool as was being awarded the 2018 Young Alumni Entrepreneur by University of Tampa 🙂
What is the biggest challenge you anticipate facing over the next 6-12 months?
Prioritizing all our productization goals, building a team, and capital
