|  FAQs

Q. CAN YOU PROVIDE MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE ACCELERATOR PROGRAM?

A. LearnLaunch Accelerator is the leading edtech startup accelerator. After a highly selective application process, LearnLaunch Accelerator provides the most promising edtech startups worldwide with seed funding, an unmatched team of mentors, intensive coaching and all the tools needed to grow a successful edtech startup.

LearnLaunch Accelerator is located in Boston, and provides several different programs customized for the edtech entrepreneur.

  • The Boost Accelerator program is a three-month residential program designed to help early stage entrepreneurs successfully grow their startups.
  • The Breakthrough Accelerator program is a distilled four-week bootcamp designed to help edtech companies that are beyond seed stage.
  • The Boost PLUS Accelerator program is a twelve week program for early-revenue stage edtech companies to produce mature edtech companies who know their market and the value they provide to their customers.
Q. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR BOOST AND BREAKTHROUGH PROGRAMS?

A. The Breakthrough program is for more established edtech startups. Usually these companies have revenues in the past 12 months far greater than $100k or international companies looking to move to the States. These companies have achieved significant market traction with one product and typically join Breakthrough to work on their scaling strategy. Our Boost program is for earlier stage startups that are still searching for product-market fit. They may have revenue, but need help with the go to market strategy.

Q. DOES MY COMPANY FALL INTO THE EDTECH CATEGORY?

A. We accept a variety of companies in the education technology space focused on early education, K-12, higher education, adult learning and corporate training.  Check out the descriptions of the prior cohorts here to get a better sense of the diversity of the LearnLaunch Accelerator portfolio of companies.

Q. HOW LARGE DOES MY TEAM HAVE TO BE TO APPLY?

A. There are no constraints on team size, but generally companies that apply have 2-8 team members.

Q. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LEARNLAUNCH ACCELERATOR & LEARNLAUNCH INSTITUTE?

A. LearnLaunch Accelerator is an accelerator program for edtech companies that are selected through a rigorous application process. LearnLaunch Institute is a non-profit, which focuses on connecting and supporting Boston’s edtech community. It offers classes, peer group learning, conferences, networking opportunities and other educational services to all individuals and organizations seeking to work with educators, students and families to enable the growth and success of the edtech and learning ecosystem.

Q. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS NOW?

A. Education is at a crossroads. Pressure to improve K-12 outcomes, college access and persistence, and the need to skill and re-skill the workforce continues to grow. Today’s teachers and students are familiar with a wide range of technologies and the costs of creating learning solutions that incorporate technology has dropped significantly. These combined factors present a unique opportunity for change. We believe we have the right team to vet, cultivate and prepare companies that will create value to the learning system.

Q. HOW ARE SCHOOLS, PARENTS, TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS INVOLVED?

A. They participate as mentors and advisors to the accelerator companies.

Q. OUR COMPANY IS A NON-PROFIT. CAN WE APPLY?

A. Yes, all companies in the edtech industry are welcome to apply. We don’t often work with non profits but if we do, we’ll invest via a debt instrument.

Q. IF WE HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED SOME FUNDING, SHOULD WE APPLY?

A. Yes, companies that already have some funding should apply. We are designed to enhance scalability. If accepted, the equity terms may need to be adjusted.

Q. ARE TEAMS REQUIRED TO RELOCATE TO BOSTON?

A. For the Boost program, we require the management team to move to Boston for the entire duration of the accelerator program.

For the Breakthrough program we require at least one senior leader (preferably the CEO) to be in Boston for our program.

For Boost PLUS we have designed a blended program with 6 weeks in person and 6 weeks remote to try to make the residential requirement easier for those with families, longer distances to travel, and other commitments outside of Boston.

Ultimately, we want to work with the people who are committed to growing your startup and for this program, that means attending in Boston.

Q. ARE THERE DEMO DAYS?

A. Yes. Typically we host Demo Day at the annual Across Boundaries Conference for those companies that participated in the previous year. This is just one of the many demoing and presenting opportunities companies attending the program have.

Q. CAN I APPLY IF I ONLY HAVE A PROTOTYPE?

A. For applicants to our Breakthrough and Boost PLUS programs, you will be required to have a product in the market.

Q. MY COMPANY WAS NOT ACCEPTED TO THE LAST PROGRAM. CAN I REAPPLY?

A. Yes, your company is welcome to reapply. It is helpful to demonstrate progress and milestones reached since the last time your company applied. Multiple times in the past we have accepted companies that were previously rejected.

Q. WHY SHOULD MY COMPANY JOIN THE LEARNLAUNCH ACCELERATOR PROGRAM?

A. The LearnLaunch Accelerator program helps grow the capabilities and reputation of your company in a structured learning environment with other emerging edtech leaders and experienced education entrepreneurs. Great connections, access to capital, a unique curriculum, and a cohort experience. And it’s a lot of fun.

Q. WHY SHOULD A COMPANY JOIN LEARNLAUNCH ACCELERATOR INSTEAD OF ANOTHER ACCELERATOR PROGRAM?

A. Education and Workforce Edtech is a very large but highly regulated sector. Our partners and mentors have extensive industry experience and deep connections to the major strategic and financial players. Our program is designed to prepare edtech startups for market entry and raising capital. It is all about offering companies a personalized experience that lasts well beyond that time you are in our accelerator programs.

Q. CAN I APPLY IF I DON’T LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES?

A. Yes, all entrepreneurs in edtech from all countries are encouraged to apply. Accepted companies must be able to prove that all members of their team have legal permission to live and work in the United States for the duration of the accelerator program. All international companies will also be required to register a US entity to receive the program funding.

We have accepted entrepreneurs from Europe, Israel, Jordan, Brazil, Singapore, Australia, India, and more!
