Meet Learnie: The first mobile microlearning platform built specifically for deskless and frontline workers. As the premier solution for peer-to-peer, bite-sized video learning, Learnie offers a modern, affordable, and engaging alternative to traditional corporate training systems. The Learnie platform helps businesses quickly train their frontline teams with AI-assisted, community-driven video microlearning integrated into daily workflows.

With 10,000+ active corporate users, Learnie is redefining how companies with frontline/deskless workers are often left out of conventional training access. For the record, 80% of the global workforce is made up of frontline workers!

In our conversation with Pete Mastin, Co-Founder & CEO of Learnie, we explore how the platform is shaping the future of workforce development.

What inspired the creation of the Learnie platform and what solution are you hoping to bring to workforce training for frontline and deskless workers?

Pete: We saw two major gaps in the learning space. First, we noticed that traditional learning management systems (LMS) aren’t built for frontline and deskless workers. In fact, they are often slow, rigid, and fail to meet the learning needs of this segment. Second, many training platforms are desktop-focused, which just doesn’t align with how most people access content today.

So, we set out to change that by building Learnie, a mobile-first platform designed for quick, accessible,  community-driven learning. While we do offer a web version, a mobile-first strategy makes the most sense because it meets people where they are: on their phones. And it’s not just about consuming content;  people want to contribute, share what they know, and build knowledge together.

In most organizations, there are employees outside the training department who know more than anyone else about a specific process. Learnie creates a space for those voices to be heard and allows companies to capture and scale the knowledge that already exists within their workforce.

Learnie empowers frontline workers with bite-sized, peer-generated content that fits their busy schedules, reducing turnover by up to 20% and boosting profits with as little as $1,500 per year for a team of 20 employees.

Learnie is a Public Benefit Corporation. What does “for-profit, for-mission” mean to you and how does it guide your work?

Pete: When you are starting a company from scratch, one of the important questions you want to ask yourself is how to make a positive impact. That question helped shape our identity as a Public Benefit Corporation. For those not familiar with the meaning – we are a for profit enterprise!  While we are absolutely working to grow the business and deliver value to our shareholders, we’re equally committed to a second bottom line.

A great example is one of our early partners was Aimee Copeland who founded All Terrain Georgia. This excellent organization supports individuals who are wheelchair-bound on how to operate off-road wheelchairs that have been placed in public parks throughout Georgia. The goal of this partnership is to help users practice safe and sustainable riding behaviors. Learnie provides the training materials to participants while also building a learning community.  So if someone visits Cumberland Island, they can scan a QR code posted in the Park and access a short course that shows them exactly how to use the chair, right from their phone.

What makes Learnie different from other microlearning or training platforms?

Pete: That’s a great question! A lot of platforms in the microlearning space aren’t truly video-based, and even fewer offer the kind of interactive, TikTok-style experience that we’ve built at Learnie. For us, short-form video isn’t just a format, it’s the core of how we think learning should happen. It’s quick, engaging, and highly effective for today’s mobile-first users, especially frontline and deskless workers.

In addition, training is not monopolized. In fact, Learnie allows peer-learning opportunities which is something most competitors don’t have. For example, anyone in the organization, whether it’s a technician, a manager, or a peer can become a content creator and share what they know with people in their organization. That opens up a powerful community-based learning experience where users contribute and learn from each other, removing barriers to knowledge sharing and retention.

Learnie also has a ton of  interactive features like quizzes and knowledge checks that are woven right into the videos. These aren’t just passive videos. Learners are actively engaging, applying, and thinking along the way. You can even link out to external resources, like a PDF manual, and then seamlessly return to the course within the app.

Finally, we are a mobile learning system that offers tracking, analytics and structures designed to fulfill the learner experience. For instance, managers or administrators in the company using Learnie have access to training analytics of their employees helping them to track progress. Our goal is to motivate users to want to learn by making it easier for them. Too often, training feels like something you’re forced to do. Learnie flips that and creates something people actually lean into.

What are some of the key milestones and impact Learnie has achieved since its creation that you’re most proud of?

Pete: We raised $279K on a Friends and Family round, which we invested in building the Learnie App. This investment enabled us to create a user-friendly video microlearning platform that now supports a diverse customer base. Today, Learnie is a Certified-B corp that supports more than 10 organizations.

The Learnie app has received multiple awards, most recently being named the 2025 Virtual Mentoring platform of the year by RemoteTech Breakthrough Awards Program. We are honored to be recognized  for  our innovative approach and the impact we deliver to companies seeking to upskill their deskless teams. This recognition underscores how Learnie helps bridge the gap in learning and development by offering practical, mobile-first solutions that boost engagement and performance and demonstrates our commitment to driving real business growth for organizations worldwide.

What are you hoping to accomplish through your participation in the LearnLaunch program?

Pete: Learnie has been gaining traction over the past five years, serving clients across healthcare, retail, education, and new energy. Our time in the LearnLaunch program has given us a chance to reflect on where we are and how we engage with our customers. It’s helped us narrow our focus and think more strategically about which verticals to prioritize.

As a startup, we know how important it is to build a clear go-to-market strategy and truly understand our ideal customer profile. We’re also preparing to kick off our fundraising efforts which is  a major step that will allow us to grow our impact and bring Learnie’s community-driven learning model to even more organizations. By the end of this program, we are hoping to have a clear market strategy and keep growing on our community-based learning foundation.
